Game Jam Projects
Submitted to the Marist IGDA October Game Jam, Octobermari is a game in which you play as a ball of leaves spreading the season of autumn to a forest. As you spread the season, the ball grows.
Development Process
Octobermari was created out of my desire to continue exploring my own visual aesthetic sensibilities as a creator. I was still in the midst of teaching myself 3d modeling, and I was finding that a low-poly, flat-shaded style appealed to me. I chose a fall-themed color palette and went to work developing a simple game over the course of a weekend. The development began with experimenting with random terrain generation, and getting that system to work took up a significant chunk of the time allotted. As a result, the rest of the game mechanics are quite simple. I'm still proud of how the game came out, and it won Best Visuals for the jam.
ColorClash
ColorClash was developed as a part of a game jam that took place in the beginning of my freshman year. It features 2-player competition in which the goal is to cover as much ground with your color as possible. The theme of the game jam was "identity," so I created different playable "classes" the player could choose from to better fit their preferred play style. The two-player concept came from my frustration with the lack of same-keyboard multiplayer games available on PC.
Development Process
The development of ColorClash was frantic yet enjoyable. I had given myself time limits and had entered competitions in the past, but this game jam was the first time these two concepts combined. The concept came to mind after watching somebody in the introductory meeting playing Splatoon 2, sparking the thought of what that game would look like in a top-down 2D setting. I'm quite proud of the result, despite its shortcomings (namely the single-player mode and the rudimentary graphics).
